Best Young Professional Presentations from GeoAsia8 2025

ACIGS invites you to a focused technical webinar showcasing three young professionals presenting recent work across pavements, coastal protection, and seismic slope stabilisation. Speakers and talks:

1) Ashray Saxena (PhD Candidate, The university of Texas at Austin) Title: Investigations on cracking characteristics of geosynthetic-reinforced asphalt using DIC Summary: How a thin geosynthetic layer placed between asphalt layers can help slow or stop cracks from returning after a road is resurfaced. The study uses a controlled sideways-loading test and a camera-based method (digital image correlation, “DIC”) to track tiny movements and compare sections with and without the interlayer.

2) Nastiti Tiasundari (R&D Manager, Geoforce Indonesia) Title: Performance of sludge-filled geotextile tubes to overcome muddy coastal abrasion Summary: A practical coastal project on a soft, muddy shoreline in Java using large fabric tubes filled with treated local sludge. The talk covers design, filling and placement, and site observations after installation, including shoreline buildup and early mangrove recovery.

3) Sureka Sekar (Research Scholar, IIT Guwahati) Title: Geocells in stabilisation of hillslopes against seismic loading — reinforcement and fascia Summary: How honeycomb-like geocells strengthen slopes during earthquakes. The presentation blends laboratory testing with computer modelling and explains where geocells tend to be most effective and what to consider in design.
