ACIGS Photo Competition 2021


We had a record number of entrants in this years photo competition and are excited to be able to announce the winner. With over 600 votes and a high caliber of photos the final results were very close in each category.

General Category -

We would also like to extend a thankyou to our judging panel who had the difficult task of selecting the finalists for each category. Congratulations to all of our winners and we look forward to running the competition in 2022.

The ACigs photo competition is back for 2021 with this years focus being on sustainability. Photo submission has now closed and details of the public vote will be available shortly.

What: A photo competition for photos featuring the use of geosynthetics. Theme for 2021 - Sustainability

Who: Participation open to the public at large within Australia, New Zealand, PNG and the Pacific Islands.

When: All submissions must be submitted by 5pm on 17/09/21

How: Submissions should be submitted through the photo competition page of -



  • The best photos will be shortlisted by a judging panel selected by the ACIGS Leadership.  Judges will not be allowed to enter the contest.
  • After the judging process, these photos will be subject to a public vote on social media to determine the winner. Details will be announced once the submission period closes.
  • There will be two separate judging categories: a General Category and a Young Member Category. Young Members are classified as under the age of 36.


  • Winner of the General Category will receive a gift voucher valued at $500
  • Runner up of the General Category will receive a gift voucher valued at $250
  • Winner of the Young Members Category will receive a gift voucher valued at $500
  • Runner up of the General Category will receive a gift voucher valued at $250
  • All finalists will be awarded a discount on individual membership for the following year.

Further details:

  • Each participant may submit up to 3 photos. Note – if a photographer is submitting multiple photos from the same project consider that it is possible for one photographer to win first place and runner up however similar photos may compete with each other for public votes in the final round. Choose your photos accordingly.
  • Photos should be jpg format and no larger than 8mb in size.
  • Photos should be original, without modification which have not been previously submitted to other photo competitions.
  • A photo title and credit must be included with each picture sent.
  • A brief description of the photo is also required (200 word max). In the description, highlight any elements of sustainability featured in the photo. Examples include: carbon emissions savings, environmental protection, increased safety, reduced construction time, waste treatment, etc. The descriptions will be included in the evaluation of the judges.
  • Photos must clearly demonstrate or represent geosynthetic material or technology in use, without product branding.
  • Entrants must give ACIGS the rights to publish the pictures on all its platforms which may include newsletter, website, social media platforms etc.
